Browse and place holds on more than 800,000 titles through LINKcat, the library catalog shared throughout the South Central Library System. The LINKcat Mobile App is also available for Apple or Android devices. Search the catalog, place holds, and even use the app as your digital library card to check out items in person with your phone!
- Apply for a Library Card
Anyone who lives in the South Central Library System service area can apply for a free library card valid at all 65 libraries in the system. If you already have a card from another member library, there is no need for a new card.
To apply:
Request an application form at the library or print at home: Library Card Application Form Bring the completed form to the main desk along with a photo ID and proof of current address if not updated on your ID.
- Acceptable proof of address: utility bill, car registration, bank statement, check, renter's agreement, closing documents, etc.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to sign the registration form and present a photo ID and proof of address.
Lost/expired cards or forgotten PIN: Please call the library at 608-838-9030 or visit the main desk for assistance.
Address changes: Please bring in photo ID and proof of address if your ID has not been updated accordingly (see examples above).
- Book Bundle Request
Need help finding books or other library items? Let our librarians put together a custom bundle for you! Click the appropriate link below to fill out a form and let us know what you're looking for. If our staff have questions, they will email you for more information. When your bundle is ready, you will be contacted to schedule a curbside pickup time (you can also pick them up in person!).

- Book Discussion Kits
Kits are available through interlibrary loan, courtesy of Madison Public Library. A number of titles are available, and books, author information and discussion questions are included.
- Computer and Wireless Internet
Wireless internet access is available throughout the library and extends outside to our parking lot and Discover Garden Park. A limited number of public computers equipped with internet access and the Microsoft Office Suite are available. Sessions are limited to 1 hour. Public computers and wireless devices can print to our photocopier. See Copier/Printer/Fax section below or our Mobile Printing page for details.
- Copier/Printer/Fax
A self-service photocopier/printer is available for public use. Copies may be made in black and white or in color. The available paper sizes are 8"x11" and 8.5" by 14". The photocopier can reduce, enlarge, and print double-sided copies, and it can scan to and print from a USB drive. Our public computers print to this photocopier and mobile devices can also print using our Mobile Printing service.
Black and white copies and printing is 10 cents/page. Color copies and printing is 50 cents/page. The photocopier accepts coins, $1/$5 bills, VISA/Mastercard, and Apple/Google/Samsung Pay.
Fax service is 50 cents/page. Please ask at desk for a cover sheet (free of charge). Payment at desk.

- Exam Proctoring

- Home Delivery Service
Home delivery of materials can be arranged through Dane County Library Service for patrons who are unable to visit the library due to physical limitations.

- Notary Services
Notary services are also available in the McFarland Municipal Center on a drop-in basis (Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm M-F) and at the UPS store in Monona.
- Outer-Library Loan
If you are looking for a book that you are unable to find in LINKcat, you may request that we borrow it from another library outside the South Central Library System (outer-library loan) or that we purchase it. Stop at the main desk or call us at 608-838-9030 to submit an outer-library loan request or fill out a Purchase Recommendation Form.
PLEASE NOTE for outer-library loan requests: Your account must be in good standing with no outstanding charges. We cannot request items until 6 months after the publication date. Requests are limited to 4 per month and 20 per year.

- Reserve the Community Room
The community room may be available for reservations outside of library programming hours, up to three months in advance. The hours the room is available for booking appear in green if unreserved and red if booked. If you do not see green boxes on the calendar, the room is not available for booking during those hours.

- Reserve a Study Room
Two study rooms are available. Time limited to 1 hour if others are waiting. One room is available first come, first served and the other can be reserved in advance by calling the circulation desk at 608-838-9030 or booking online: Reserve a Study Room (link only works for reservations more than 24 hours in advance).
